Virus Burst: What is it, how did I get it, and how can I remove it?
By Matt Williams
VirusBurst is one of those pesky rogue anti-spyware programs that generate fake security warnings in a malicious attempt to get you to purchase the full featured program. VirusBurst is also known by the name of VirusRescue and SpywareQuake. Whatever the name, the end result is the same: an unwanted Trojan program that installs on your computer system and scares you with fake security warnings.
The “System detected virus activities” warning is completely fake. Its sole purpose is to get you to follow the link in the warning balloon in order to purchase the “solution” to clean the supposed threats. If you do purchase their solution, you've just been scammed! Your system was fine until VirusBurst burst its way onto your PC.
One way that VirusBurst sneaks onto a system is by acting as if it's a required “codec” to play music or video. Because users want the music or video to play, they will allow the codec to be installed. VirusBurst also piggybacks its way onto system by bundling itself onto other programs a user might download.
The best way to rid your system of VirsBurst is invest in a good anti-spyware program and keep it current. Not only will this take care of your immediate problem, it will prevent future infections as well.
To manually remove VirusBlast, you will need to work with the system registry which is highly risky and should only be attempted by someone with high technical skills and only after a backup has been made.
First, find these DLL files and un-register them:
- dpfwu.dll
- eowygj.dll
- ficqv.dll
- gqagksr.dll
- httge.dll
- tazth.dll
- titiau.dll
Next, find these VirusBurst registry entries and remove them:
